Precession of triaxially deformed neutron stars

چکیده

A deformed neutron star (NS) will precess if the instantaneous spin axis and angular momentum are not aligned. Such a precession can produce continuous gravitational waves (GWs) modulate electromagnetic pulse signals of pulsars. In this contribution we extend our previous work in more convenient parameterization. We treat NSs as rigid triaxial bodies give analytical solutions for velocities Euler angles. summarize general GW waveforms from freely precessing use Taylor expansions to obtain with small wobble angle. For pulsar signals, adopt simple cone model study timing residuals profile modulations. reality, torque acts on pulsars affects behavior. Thereof, an additional extension work, consider vacuum display illustrative example body-frame velocities. Detailed investigations concerning GWs modulated forced triaixal be given future studies.

Precession of Isolated Neutron Stars

I summarize the evidence for precession of isolated neutron stars and theoretical effort to understand the observations. I discuss factors that might set the precession period, describe constraints on the material properties of the crust, and conclude with a brief discussion of possible sources of stress that would deform a neutron star to the extent required.

Modelling magnetically deformed neutron stars

Rotating deformed neutron stars are important potential sources for groundbased gravitational-wave interferometers such as LIGO, GE0600 and VIRGO. One mechanism that may lead to significant non-asymmetries is the internal magnetic field. It is well known that a magnetic star will not be spherical and, if the magnetic axis is not aligned with the spin axis, the deformation will lead to the emiss...

Geodetic Precession in Binary Neutron Stars

The discovery of pulsars in 1967 marked the beginning of a new era in astrophysics. Besides studying pulsars as fascinating astrophysical objects in their own right, these sources serve as invaluable tools in the research of a large variety of physical and astrophysical problems. Studied subjects range from plasma and solid-state physics under extreme conditions to investigations of the interst...

Precession of Isolated Neutron Stars I: Effects of Imperfect Pinning

We consider the precession of isolated neutron stars in which superfluid is not pinned to the stellar crust perfectly. In the case of perfect pinning, Shaham (1977) showed that there are no slowly oscillatory, long-lived modes. When the assumption of perfect pinning is relaxed, new modes are found that can be long-lived, but are expected to be damped rather than oscillatory, unless the drag for...

The Nonradial Oscillation Node Precession of Neutron Stars

The standing wave nodes of nonradial oscillations on a neutron star crust will drift with a definite angle velocity around rotational pole due to the rotation of neutron stars. This is called the nonradial oscillation node precession of neutron stars. This article estimated the precession velocity and pointed out that it merely lies on the star’s rotation velocity and the angular order of spher...
